The award specifically looked at the work done in 2021 in support of and in collaboration with the Basha Uhuru youth festival. As per BASA, “In 2021, after the Covid hiatus of 2020, the Basha Uhuru Creative Uprising Fired Up by Nando’s was presented as a hybrid event that brought creatives and audiences back together at Constitution Hill and delivered inspiration, networking, creative collaborations and hands-on creativity.”

Tracy Lynch (second from left , standing), Creative director of Clout/SA curated an exhibition for Basha Uhuru Festival last year, showing pieces by Siviwe Jali, Thando Nxelewa, Katlego Tshuma (all standing), Sipho Twala and Glorinah Mabaso (sitting), among others.

At last year’s Basha Uhuru festival, as part of the Ideation Nation conference, Clout/SA exhibited a selection of furniture and lighting pieces from seven young designers who were part of the 2020 top ten finalists of what has grown into South Africa’s leading design competition, the Clout/SA facilitated Nando’s Hot Young Designer Talent Search (HYD), alongside multi-award winning Wiid Studio and Renaissance Studio’s collaborative collection of collectible design pieces. Clout/SA also facilitated an exchange of ideas and skills through hybrid events, talks that had a live audience as well as being streamed as webinars. In addition, we collaborated with design partners who hosted  as well as practical workshop.

We are truly grateful to BASA for this recognition, and to the hardworking designers who inspire us to create platforms to show off their incredible work. Last and certainly not least, a big thank you to Nando’s for recognising and supporting the creative energy and talent of South African designers, artists, musicians; and for showing that when brave businesses partner meaningfully with creatives, we become a united force for good!
